Instagram Hacked Twice In One Month

The number of data breaches have increased quite a lot in the past year. Instagram has
also become a victim to similar attacks. The attack this time was pretty serious and caused some real damage. The bug allowed the hackers to obtain phone numbers and email addresses of some high-profile users, however, passwords remained safe. The bug was detected in the API of the app, which is used to communicate with other websites.

Last year in November, a similar breach was faced by Google, Facebook and Twitter where the encrypted passwords and usernames of almost two million users were stolen by attackers.
Instagram has refused to give out any further details as to who was targeted in the attack. It has neither given any names nor has released the number of people who were affected. This is the second setback faced by the photo focused social network after the hack attempt on Selena Gomez’s account. It is now sending out alerts about the intrusion but they claim that they have fixed the bug.
“We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information — specifically email address and phone number — by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API,” said a company’s spokesperson.
This breach was the last thing Instagram needed at the moment. This attack combined with the attack on Selena Gomez’s profile is making many celebrities uncomfortable on Instagram. But Facebook owned company is taking quick actions to show that they are doing everything in their power to keep things under control.
